they need good star trek music in the new movies, they can add new stuff , but i think they should rework the some of the old stuff too , just so it will feel like star trek . oh and that trailier was really cool , good work. i bet the first real trailiers will be pure teasers , i would expect to actually see one , soon , cause you dont need actors for most teasers , just something like that , some cgi and the new enterprise , and then the date . i say when i see the full real tailer for the new movie , that will it finally sink in that star trek is back !

I think as far as music we are in good hands, the guy doing the score did a host of Medal of Honor games, and Spielberg reffered to him as a “young Johnny Williams”, as his themes are truly evocative of Williams style.

Addendum:

I challenge anyone to look up and find , listen to “Arknam Knights” on the Medal of Honor Frontline soundtrack and not get choked up, it’s haunting.

If anyone wants to hear a taste of Michael Giacchino (probably spelled wrong), he did the music for Ratatouille. I personally thought that it was well done.

Anthony, that is the best Star Trek movie teaser I have seen since the one for Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country featuring clips from TOS and the TOS movies projected onto the Enterprise.

J.J. Abrams and Paramount would be remiss to not contact you about using that trailer for their initial promotion.

The only legal difficulty I can think of that could prevent that from happening is the fact that the text is similar to the initial trailers for Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

Anthony, I seriously suggest that you make this trailer the flash intro to your site, at least up until the premiere of the movie. What a way to make an impression on new visitors to your site.

Will they still using the same opening theme music or an updated version of? You know the Da, Da, Da? I think that’s how it goes.

44 - I sure hope so. I remember that was missing from TMP, and as great as the score was for TMP (it was eventually used for TNG), it suffered a little (more) from not having that at the beginning. Then it was brought back for TWOK. I remember seeing TWOK in the theater, and when that music hit, the crowd stood and cheered! Following that opening came James Horner’s score, which is arguably the best score written for Trek.

The main title score for Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country did not have the fanfare at the beginning either, but that was still a great score and a great movie. But it did have the fanfare at the end of the movie and in the end credits.

The real transgression of the TMP score was that it did not have the fanfare at all anywhere in the movie. It did have strains of the main original series theme in the movie, but no iconic fanfare.

Nothing against the trailer which is well-done, but flash intros to websites are a real irritant. One of the great things about this site is its simplicity.

I bet this will be better than the actual trailer. It’s well done. It’s a good pre vis stuff for what they should do. Take note movie people, simple is better.

What a great trailer!

It shows that you can generate interest without really showing anything new! It did indeed “tease” the viewer into wanting more! Even though I know it was nothing brand new, it made me want to see what is to come!

Very well done Anthony. I always liked that music from Generations. As an original fan from way back, I’ve always noted that the music played a part in the drama. Nice work. Well worth the time, you earn points for using the Enterprise in it’s original glory coming out of the sun! Which as, I’m sure you noticed, went into the sun at the ending of Star Trek VI! Nice…..

WOW, just WOW!!! That moved me. I could easily see something like this become their final trailer! I think it would have been nice to include the “To boldly go where no man/one has gone before” somewhere in there.

Good trailer over all, but I really hope they don’t use any of those “for every adventure there is a beginning” type lines in the real one. I suppose it wouldn’t do any harm since the general public don’t watch them, but fan trailers almost always have those lines and it’s becoming a real cliché. “The human adventure is just beginning” is another one, usually just before a montage of ships exploding.

I have to say, of all the Next Generation film scores, the Generations score was the best. Dennis McCarthy managed to compose an original score in the same heroic vein as the scores for II, IV, and VI.

As great as Jerry Goldsmith was, his scores for the Next Generation films were not his best. First Contact was adequate, but it was too similar to his original theme for V, and no comparison to his score for I and even the excellent main theme for Voyager.

However, I don’t blame Goldsmith for this; I think Rick Berman had a tendency to water down everything when it came to the Next Generation films: the scores, the titles, the vigor, the life.

It’s interesting that Dennis McCarthy wasn’t retained for future Next Generation films, especially after his vibrant and epic score for Generations.

The film may have not been the greatest, but the music is one of the best, and Anthony et al. made a great, perhaps perfect, choice in selecting this piece of music, especially as it is the last score associated with Kirk, and what could be more appropriate than using elements of that score to promote a return to Kirk’s heyday.

All that speculative interpretation aside, it’s still a damn fine piece of music.

I forwarded the trailer to some friends that are fans, but don’t hang out here - everyone loved it and started asking me questions about the new movie. Naturlich, I referred them to this site.

But then, I am a weepy fool when it comes to Star Trek and the memories that can be evoked. I hope that Abrams and company can show as much love for it as you have here. THEN we know that Star Trek will be well served.

And the Generations music was a good choice.

I loved the over the shoulder shot as Kirk steps onto the bridge and the E coming out of the glare of the sun.
